Program Associate

Launched in 2018, Superheroes Against Superbugs (SaS) is an educational and public engagement initiative working to promote awareness and action about the problem of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) or drug-resistant infections in India through a variety of events with a diverse set of stakeholders. 

In collaboration with the Alliance for Pathogen Surveillance Innovations – India (APSI–India), a project funded by Rockefeller Foundation and involving institutions such as, CCMB and LVPEI Hyderabad, NCBS and TIGS in Bangalore, IISER Pune, and Ashoka University, the SaS team will work with young people and a variety of other stakeholders to bring out their voices and ideas on the need for better infectious disease and AMR surveillance in the country. 

In order to inform the public and policymakers about a better surveillance mechanism for infectious diseases, including drug-resistant infections, in the country, the program will involve working with a diverse set of stakeholders, including scientists, healthcare professionals, ASHA workers, policymakers, and young students and professionals.

We are looking for a Program Associate to help us with the following:

1. Liaise with researchers involved in the APSI-India project and organise awareness talks in city colleges/public spaces.

2. Organize workshops for college students and healthcare workers with the SaS team.

3. Coordinate with the hospitals in the APSI-India project to facilitate training of medical students on AMR surveillance.

4. Work closely with the SaS leads to design the various events and contribute to the content for the workshops

5. Prepare a variety of event reports.

6. Assist the SaS team in creating content for funders and policymakers.

7. Curate and manage content on the SaS website and social media, as well as the outreach page on the APSI website.

The prospective candidate should have the following qualifications, skills, and abilities:


1. A Bachelor’s degree in sciences, engineering, medicine or humanities

2. Demonstrated experience in science or health communication, public engagement with science and research

3. Proficient with social media and website management 

4. Strong communication, writing, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, as well as excellent presentation and facilitation abilities;

5. Excellent analytical, critical thinking, planning, and organisational abilities, as well as a strong attention to detail, accuracy, professionalism, and deadlines

6. Willingness to travel frequently throughout the cities in which APSI-India operates

7. The associate will be based in Hyderabad and should be available to meet with the SaS team as needed.

Desirable: Experience of working with stakeholders in health and research 

Remuneration: INR 50,000–70,000 per month, depending on the candidate’s experience and abilities. The position is for one year, and there will be a performance review after three months.

Tentative start date: 15 January, 2023
